Chaney vs. Calipari: 1994
In discussing the best and worst dressed college basketball coaches, I recalled some great John Chaney memories. The following video is one of my favorite. Notice the style with which Chaney wears that shirt and tie. A well-wrinkled and worn white button up shirt, and the tie loosened...a lot. Please don't miss out on John Chaney's death threat to John Calipari (it happens right after Chany approaches Calipari at the microphone stand). This was Atlantic 10 basketball at it's finest. We can only hope that this kind of passion and lunacy can happen one day in the future. John Chaney: "You remember that, when I see you, I'm gonna kick your ass! (slight pause) KICK YOUR ASS!!!" Enjoy.

One of the greatest moments in John Chaney's coaching career....scratch that, in anyone's coaching career. John Chaney did 3 great things for Temple, one was this incident, the other was sending that player in to beat up on the other team and third was being the team's mascot while coaching, I mean really shouldn't Temple be the Fighting Chaneys with a mascot who looks like a cross between a black ghost and an alien, it would be the greatest mascot ever.
ReplyDelete(too scared to say anything in response)
ReplyDeletei do have something to say that i neglected to say in the Chaney post. as i get older, i find it interesting to feel the same way about certain things in the present day that i felt when i was younger. this Chaney blow-up is one of those things. this clip made me snicker and laugh as a 14 year old...and it provokes the exact same reaction in me today. i still laugh (or at least chuckle) out loud when i watch this clip, and especially when Chaney says, "I'll kill you!" great, great comedy. it's reassuring that certain things that moved me in my past move me in the same way today.
ReplyDeletewere you scared because my comment may have seemed racist, actually I have thought about it to, but I thought if I did a cross between a ghost and an alien it just wouldn't get the point across (I was just being honest, a ghost is white, and the fact is, Chaney is not white, if it were John Clayton, then I could say ghost and alien). Anyway, my comments have gone surprisingly racist on this blog, I'm sorry to all, I will have to stop, maybe I can focus on fair skinned, red headed, white people instead.
ReplyDeletethere is no saying sorry to the loyal readers of my blog. i felt that my response was the funniest thing i could put down. it implies that your response was more insensitive or rude than it actually was. i'm not explaining comedy theory here (although i just did) keep doing what you've been doing! i can't wait to hear phil chime in on the black ghost/ghost/alien thing.
ReplyDeleteto matt...remember the search for the elusive motion ghost?
You need to check my blog entry from last Halloween, do I remember the Motion Ghost, I only spet 9 days of my precious life looking for that mysterious thing at Targets all over the Northern Suburban part of Pittsburgh..Motion Goat?
